A quiet nudge when someone you actually know is nearby — no feeds, no strangers, no noise.
Every decision made to protect your privacy and reduce digital noise
Your location travels over HTTPS and is stored with AES-256-GCM. Friends only ever see an approximate distance — never your exact position.
Before anyone knows you're nearby, you both must agree on a distance. That shared agreement — the handshake — is what makes CUZ safe by design.
CUZ matches against your phone's contact list, just like WhatsApp does for chats. No strangers, no random people — only the people you already know and trust.
No feed to scroll. No badge anxiety. Just a single notification when you and a connection are both nearby and online. Then you call them like a normal person.
Location data is deleted automatically after 15 minutes. We hold no location history and have no movement logs to leak, sell, or subpoena.
macOS, Windows, and Linux desktop apps available now. Android and iOS native apps coming soon. Built to meet POPIA and GDPR from day one.
Four steps, zero feed, one real catch-up
Phone number + OTP. No passwords, no email required to get started.
CUZ checks your contacts and shows which ones are on the app — no data is shared until you both agree to connect.
You send a request with your preferred radius. Your contact picks theirs. When you agree — you're connected. If not, nothing is shared.
When you're both nearby and online, you get one notification. Tap to call using your regular phone dialer — then go meet up.
Every feature, every connection, no limits — free for everyone, forever (for now).
If CUZ brings your people closer, a small donation keeps the lights on.

The privacy and safety questions everyone actually wants answered
No. Location is only checked when you open the app or enable an active session. It's stored for a maximum of 15 minutes and then permanently deleted — we hold no location history whatsoever.
Only an approximate distance range (e.g. "within 5 km") — never your exact coordinates. Your name and that you're nearby is all they get, and only because you both agreed to that connection.
The handshake design prevents this. Both people must actively agree to connect and set a mutual distance before any proximity information is shared. You can also remove a connection at any time, instantly.
CUZ is designed to be lightweight. It only accesses location when active — there is no continuous background GPS polling. You control when you're "on".
Yes — 100% free, no subscriptions, no paywalls. Every feature is available to everyone. If you'd like to support the project, there's a voluntary donation option on the site — entirely optional.
No. You sign up with your phone number and a one-time OTP — no passwords to forget or manage.
Never. We don't sell, share, or broker your personal data. CUZ is donation-supported — not ad-supported, not data-supported.
