At Catch Up Zone (CUZ), your privacy is central to how we design and operate our platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only what's necessary to make CUZ work properly and securely.
a. Information You Provide
- Mobile Number — to register and verify your account via OTP.
- Contacts (Optional) — to find which of your contacts are already using CUZ. Contact information is processed locally on your device; it is not uploaded to our servers.
b. Automatically Collected Information
- Approximate Location — used only for proximity matching; encrypted before being sent.
- Device Information — such as device type, operating system, and app version, for performance optimization.
- Usage Logs — anonymized records of errors and crash reports to improve the app.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Verify your identity through OTP.
- Show which of your contacts are using CUZ.
- Enable proximity-based notifications.
- Ensure the app functions securely and efficiently.
We do not:
- Track your location history.
- Sell or rent your data.
- Use your data for targeted advertising.
3. Data Storage and Security
- Location data is encrypted on your device before transmission.
- Temporary location data is stored in Redis (with automatic expiry).
- Personal data is stored securely in PostgreSQL with strict access control.
- We apply AES encryption, TLS, and data minimization principles.
Your data is never shared with third parties unless:
- Required by law or legal process, or
- Necessary to protect the safety or rights of users or the public.
4. Location Data
- CUZ uses your location to detect nearby connections only when you are online.
- Your exact coordinates are not stored permanently.
- CUZ may add small random noise to your coordinates to enhance privacy.
- You can revoke location permissions anytime via your device settings.
5. Data Retention
We keep:
- Your mobile number and basic profile while your account is active.
- Temporary session data (e.g., location info) for a limited time (≤ 15 minutes).
When you delete your account, all related data is irreversibly deleted within 30 days.
6. Your Rights
Under POPIA and GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data;
- Request correction or deletion;
- Withdraw consent for data processing;
- File a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Children's Privacy
- CUZ is not directed to children under 16 years old.
- We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has registered, please contact us for removal.
8. Data Transfers
- Your data may be processed on servers located in or outside South Africa.
- Where data is transferred internationally, we use standard contractual clauses and equivalent protections.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available in the App and on our website. Continued use of CUZ after changes means you agree to the revised policy.
